História AFC
Criada em 1970 depois da fusão da AFL com a NFL. A AFC (American Football Conference) foi composta pelas equipas que faziam parte da American Football League a que se juntaram 3 equipas vindas da NFL: os Cleveland Browns, os Pittsburgh Steelers e os então denominados Baltimore Colts, mais tarde, depois da mudança para Indianapolis, denominados por Indianapolis Colts. A Conferência era composta incialmente por 3 divisões:, mas sofreu várias alterações ao longo dos anos até à sua configuração actual de 4 divisões com 4 equipas cada.
